Lesser-Known Tips & Tricks for New Parents
As new parents, we often seek the best ways to keep our little ones safe. Here are some lesser-known tips and tricks that can make a big difference:
Bring your car seat & vehicle manuals to tech inspections. This helps technicians provide the best guidance.
Practice installing the seat first! CPS technicians love to guide you rather than do it for you.
Always check seat expiration dates. Most car seats expire after six years.
Booster seats are necessary until your child is 9–12 years old or 4’9” tall, even if TN law states otherwise.
Install a CPR refresher app like Red Cross First Aid for quick how-tos at your fingertips.
Keep a laminated “Emergency Infant CPR Steps” card in diaper bags or cars for easy access.
Grandparent caregivers can greatly benefit from refresher classes on infant CPR, sleep safety, and feeding.
Consider hosting CPR practice parties with friends or birth groups. Some instructors offer group rates!
Ask hospitals if they provide “Safe Sleep” starter kits. Some include sleep sacks or pack n plays. (Another local resource for safe sleep and free pack n plays is Derrick Stone Safe Sleep)
10. Record CPR demos on your phone during class. This way, you can refresh your memory later!
I hope this guide helps you find the resources you need for CPR/First Aid and Car Seat Safety knowledge! Remember, you are not alone on this journey.
